2008.08.08 (Fri) - Went in late to work but in time to grab my doughnut. I took off at noon, ran home and packed for our trip to Fernley NV to see Robin's Dad and Virginia. We stopped to grab some car shots in Reno and then Sparks. We haven't been up to Reno for the Hot August Nights car show in a few years. It is a huge event, we hope to sneak out for a couple of hours on Saturday for some more shots.

While in Sparks I grabbed this shot, very nice paint job on this custom Pontiac!

2008.09.06 (Sat) - More Here...

Robin and I got into Reno about 10PM last night with Jen, B, & Bri. Robin and I got to bed right away, the kids, of course, stayed up later. We got up at 4AM, checked out and headed to Rancho San Rafael Park for the balloon races. We arrived in time for the glow show, very cool. Next was the "Dawn Patrol", but I think the best part was the mass ascension! There were 100 balloons there and they all began inflating and taking to the sky at about 7AM. The crowd was allowed to walk in and among the balloons as they were preparing and it was pretty cool! James and Doreen were in Reno and we had hoped to run into them but we missed each other.

We took way too many photos and posted the best of them in this separate gallery for those interested. It was hard picking one for my daily photo and I finally settled on this one. After the balloons drifted away we ran to Denny's for breakfast and then headed home for a nice long nap. After the nap I got a call from an old friend and we spoke on the phone for quite some time, we made plans to get together and I look forward to it.

Dinner was "fend for yourself", Jen stayed, it was really nice having her around, we miss her lots. Well, we all had a great time and look forward to going again next year.

2008.06.22 (Sun) - Day three of the Bell reunion and I got up early to go look for a good shot. I decided to run into Chester about five miles away. There was a layer of fog in the marshy area just outside of town. It was very beautiful, this shot barely does it justice.

After I returned, we had breakfast and hung out for the day. Jen, Brandon, Briana, and Robin played badminton for a while. Robin and I went out later for a seven mile bike ride though downtown Chester. Later that day we said goodbye to family members who had to take off for home.More photos from today!

2009.05.01 (Fri) - New found friends (including Kamryn who actually took the photo)

First off, here is a link to the rest of the photos from our SmugMug outting.

Robin and I had a very nice day today, we got up early and went to the Thrive 2009 conference at our church, the morning session was awesome. We were so beat from all the fun we had yesterday that we actually went home around lunch and took a three hour nap while it rained. I am still a day behind in posting my dailies and had some pretty good shots from our morning but wanted to post a group shot from our day yesterday.

I just can't tell you how great it was to spend the day with the neatest people I've met in a very long time. Robin and I joke around about how "socially retarded" we are and it really took us out of our comfort zone to go meet up with a bunch of people that we had never met before and I am so glad that we did. I don't know why we get nervous about meeting new people, I guess sometimes we worry about not fitting in but you know what... We really did, Lady Kate, Kamryn, Monica, and Hillary all made us feel very welcome. I just wanted to express again how much fun we had meeting up with our Smugmug friends. Thanks guys for sharing your lives with us the other day, we hope to build on the friendships we made.

2008.12.05 (Fri) - Feeling a bit better today, I decided to go into work. We had our usual Friday meeting at SGS, then drove over to our offices where Jason treated us to coffee at a quaint little coffee shop downtown where we talked shop for a while. Returned to work late afternoon and got back to work. It was a nice break from the usual project work.

Headed home and picked up Brandon, went to Sushi for dinner befor picking up Bri at work. Picked up Daniel and dropped her off with B and Bri at the movies. Robin and I took off looking for a daily photo.

It was foggy and I went back to Daniel's neighborhood for this shot of a nearby oak tree that looked cool in the fog with the light beaming through the branches.

2009.03.02 (Mon) - Magical Roseville

Had a good day, went in a bit later than usual, going to start working later shifts while Rob is out enjoying time with Livia, his new daughter. Ate lunch at my desk, had a late meeting and took off about 6PM. The drive home was great, hardly any traffic at all. Got home and had Dinner with Robin and then we took off in search of a photo.

Ended up on Vernon Street in Old Roseville. Walked from the old Tower Theater to the old Roseville Theater where I grabbed this shot.

2008.08.09 (Sat) - Had a good day, got up early and spent time with Tom and Virginia. Tom took an afternoon nap and the four of us ran out to the Fernley Raceway to meet Mike from work. He was there racing motorcycles with family. I shot some photos but they really didn't turn out. Turns out I am not much of an action photographer. I'll post the few good ones when I get home tomorrow.

We were going to run to Reno but decided to return to Robin's dads to see if he was awake. He was so we hung out, ate dinner and then took off for Sparks later in the evening to shoot some cars. Parking was a nightmare, we finally got a spot but by the time we got to the cruise the light was no good. We got a few good shots before dark and then broke out the tripod.

I grabbed this shot just before we headed home.

2009.01.31 (Sat) - It is still early and I've done so much already. I got up early and ran 5K with my best time this year then showered, changed, and took off with Robin for another morning photo shoot above the old Fair Oaks bridge. We arrived a bit later than we had planned so we missed the sun breaking the horizon but it was still a beautiful morning.

We grabbed several nice shots, I'll post one of Robins in her gallery. I liked the way this shot was framed by the oak tree.

Returned home and grabbed Brandon and went to Mels Diner for breakfast. We got home about 30 minutes ago and just now got a chance to post the daily.

2009.04.30 (Thu) - Had a great time in the city with new Smugmug friends. Spent the day on pier 39, I loved this shot of Hillary and Monica.

2008.09.03 (Wed) - I had a great day, work was good. The drive home was a bit slow but Robin was home when I arrived. The family was hungry so we all went out to eat. After dinner, we dropped Bri off at her place and then ran home. Brandon had some work to do on the Oakmont Website so he stayed home.

Robin and I took off for a walk around the neighborhood looking for a daily photo. I spotted this colorful flower, not sure what it is but I thought it looked really neat. Switched to the Macro lens to grab this shot, then, after we completed our walk, we returned home and tuned in for the RNC convention to watch Governor Palin's speech. I was quite pleased.

2009.02.20 (Fri) - Lincoln Bench

2008.07.22 (Tue) - Jury duty is very interesting, I would love to share about it but I am not permitted to. I snuck home at lunch time so I could see Brandon and make sure he was okay since he was home alone. Returned to the courtroom wearing an extra layer, they keep it very cool in there. Sitting and listening all day makes for a long day, I will be glad when it is over.

Robin and I took off around 6PM to go see how the beavers have been progressing on the tree. I grabbed some shots of their work and sat in a pile of goose droppings while I was grabbing this shot. We returned home so that I could change and then headed out to our regular Tuesday night crew. We returned to the beavers around 9:15PM and sat quietly and watched them swimming for a while before taking off to get back to Brandon.

2008.12.21 (Sun) - Had a nice day, R and I slept in a bit. We had breakfast at home and then headed out to wrap up the Christmas shoppping. We picked up Bri on our way back and she and Bri started some baking while B and I hung the outdoor lights. A bit late but I didn't want to catch grief in the future about "the Christmas without lights"!

Chris dropped off Peyton about 4:30, we took her to my parents for a quick visit, then returned home for dinner. Robin made Chicken Cordon Bleau, it was great!

Peyton is a bundle of energy, we are doing our best to wear her down so she will go to sleep. We watched The Wizard Of Oz with her and now she is starting to wind down for the evening.

I needed to grab a shot and thought I would get back to Robin's snowman collection as per popular demand. :)

2009.03.27 (Fri) - Rocklin Oak Sunrise

Had a good day, got up early and took off for Rocklin to catch a sunrise shot. Grabbed a few shots before running back home to check on Brandon who sent a text to say he was saying home sick. Ran to Bel Air and grabbed some groceries for work and then headed for work. Attended an 8:30 meeting and had a muffin and then eturned to the DCA office to continue working on the current module.

Robin had a rough day, she headed home for bed and I finished out my day. Traffic was messy, got home and hugged everyone, ate and started our NetFlix DVD. (Transporter 3?) Shot all my photos in RAW this morning by mistake and I've been having issues with my RAW conversions lately, reinstalled some drivers and codecs and got everything working again. Processed this one from my morning and posting for the day.

2008.09.16 (Tue) - I woke up early (4AM) and could not go back to sleep so I got up and hopped online to try and get caught up on the dailies. I am constantly amazed at how talented you all are. Thanks all for your comments on my photos too.

Posting another shot from Saturday. This one of my son, he has grown into such a fine young man! I did a lot of processing on this photo. The original photo had many smudges on the glasses, also used some healing brush, then tried several different effects until I arrived at this one.

I've got to get ready for work, I think I'll ride in today.

2009.03.13 (Fri) - Flower Friday

What a great day, slept in, got to work late, ran off to our company office for a quick meeting with our folks before returning to the state office. Had a good chat with Mike and Jeff before taking the rest of the day off. Had plans with Samuel again for lunch but he had something come up. I took the opportunity to wander around with the camera and grab some noon shots.

Stopped off at Paul Baker Printing to talk to my old co-workers from my old career in Printing. Had a good chat before returning home to do the dishes. Robin was just waking up, we went to lunch at La Bou and then returned home to grab B and Bri and run over to the hospital to see how Bri's mom is doing. While we were waiting for the kids to get out of class Robin and I walked around the corner from our house to grab this flower shot for my daily.

Still got half the day to do whatever but thought I would post the daily photo now.

2008.06.05 (Thu) - Another very good day. At work we were treated to a BBQ, we had tables set up outside and we all spent the lunch hour hanging out. No shop talk, it was great.

After work I dashed home and we watched Peyton for about an hour, then Robin and I decided to go to Cafè of India for dinner. From there we were going to run over to my parents house to fix Dad's printer but we saw a small car show going on outside of Mels Drive-in and we couldn't pass up the chance to grab some photos. We didn't have the camera so we had to quickly run and grab it.

There were some very nice cars there, we spent some time chatting with one of the owners before we had to run off. We grabbed several shots, out of the ones I took I liked this one the best. (After some processing)

When we finished shooting the cars, we saw my parents, fixed the printer, hung out a bit, then headed home for the evening.

2009.04.02 (Thu) - First 1/2 decent HDR

Work was as it normally is but a bit quite. R was out with pink-eye and M is pretty quiet. Had some technical issues but got them resolved before lunch. Went to lunch with Bobby, we did Sushi, it was great. His turn to pay and it wasn't cheap. I'll have to take us to someplace nice next week.

After work I ran home to pick up Brandon and the new Bench that Robin got for Chris, Kayla, and Peyton. Got everything loaded up and headed up to see the girls. Kayla and Peyton were happy to see us, we grabbed huggs and then headed to Marysville for dinner and another goose chasing good time at lake Ellis.

While there I grabbed several bracketed shots with the intention to attempt another HDR. R, at work, sent me a link to a photoshop HRD how-to and this is the end result. I could use some practice using the curves tool to tone map my images but I think I did okay. Thanks "R"ob!

2008.12.20 (Sat) - Good day, R and I got up early and did some more Christmas shopping done. Got done by 10AM and then came home and did some cleaning. Later we relaxed and watched a very long chickflick. (are there any other kinds?)

Later that evening, we ate dinner in town, then ran to downtown Sac with the camera to look for a daily shot and to hang out. The captial is very pretty at night and the tree is up and lit.

My apologies for breaking the snowman streak, but I liked this shot better...

2008.10.02 (Thu)- Another good day, work went well. Bobby and I met for our standing Thursday lunch, the food was good but the company was better. I returned to finish my work day and then dashed home to watch the VP debate. I thought Governor Palin did quite well and held her own against Senator Biden.

After reading the comments from yesterday's photo, I decided to go for the shot using candle light as some of you had suggested. Hope you like it.

2008.11.07 (Fri) - Long day at work, got in early and worked late. Rob and I went to lunch together. Got home in time to give Peyton and Kayla a hug before they headed home. Robin and I watched some TV and then decided to run to Downtown Sac in search of a daily photo.

I've been in a creative slump lately, wasn't sure what I wanted to shoot until we passed the Memorial Auditorium. Grabbed several shots but the first one was my best. Hope you like it.

2008.06.27 (Fri) - Finally a Friday! I was on four wheels again today, met Bobby for lunch at Applebee's, Lunch was good, Bobby is the best friend.

After work I returned home and we watched Peyton until Kayla got off work. Peyton is walking everywhere now. We played "two little monkeys, jumpin' on the bed" and we got to laughing so loud, it was great.

Later, Robin and I took off to Rancho Cordova for a car show we heard about. I love the summer season, lots of car shows. It was still smokey from all the fires and the lighting was bad so I had to bump the ISO way up and the photos were a bit grainy but still nice. I don't know what kind of car this is but it looks very nice.

2008.12.17 (Wed) - More software design specification work today, not really something most developers enjoy doing and it's funny to note that we go through a lot more coffee when doing it too! Oh well, it needs to get done and it should be over by the end of the week.

Took off for home and got a call from Kayla when I was almost home, she and Chris had stopped by the house with Peyton and wanted to know how long until I got home. I was only 5 minutes away so they waited for me...

I woke Robin up and we got to visit for a couple hours before they left. Robin is cooking Lasagna for dinner so I decided to get my daily photo out of the way while she was busy.

I grabbed another Snowman shot, I think we might actually have enough snowmen for me to finish the month with a daily shot of each one! Heh

2008.10.14 (Tue) - Another tough day but better than yesterday. Went in early so I was able to leave early. I did have a nice lunch with Rob at work, he is a pretty good guy and the closest to a friend that I have at work. Got home later and Robin was sleeping after her graveyard shift. Robin just got up and is getting ready for work and I am just getting ready for bed.

Peytons 1st B-Day : We celebrated Peyton's first birthday at Royer park on Saturday, April 5th. The weather was perfect and everyone seemed to have a great time hanging our together on this special occaision. I must say that it was nice seeing both sides of Peyton's family together at one time. We enjoyed spending time together, of course we BBQ'd, we sang to the birthday girl (without paying the royalty), we enjoyed cake with Peyton (although not quite as much as she did), we socialized some more, and then watched Peyton open all the wonderful gifts that her guests brought. A big thank you goes out to all who showed up, we enjoyed having you all there. For everyone who wanted to make it but could not, enjoy the photos and we hope we can see you all next time. Thanks to everyone who helped plan the party, you made it a very special day for Peyton. Take care... Robin & Darron

2008.05.03 - Bell work weekend : Well, a bunch of us got together this weekend to help out with some much needed yard work at Tom and Virginia's house in Fernley Nevada. It was hard work but we all had a good time and got a bunch accomplished while we were there. The work began Friday afternoon when we started demolition of the side yard fence that had blown over in a recent storm. Next we dug post holes and sunk three new metal posts. Day 2 brought more fun with a roto-tilling party in the back yard that got out of hand and spread to the front yard. We installed a sprinkler line in the newly tilled back yard and then put a new roof on the back patio. We wrapped up day 2 by seeding the back yard and cleaning up the back patio and eating dinner together. We accomplished a lot in two days and we were glad that we could help. We had to take off late Saturday because Robin had to work the next morning. We hope day three was as productive!
